To our beautiful community,
After much reflection, I bring you some very meaningful news about the next chapter of The Hummingbird Field. As many of you know, I’ve been exploring the possibility of selling the studio for the past few years. During this time, my priorities have been shifting; with growing responsibilities to my aging parents and a deep desire to give more attention to Day of Pause (http://dayofpause.org/), a project that has lived in my heart for many years.
Additionally, our recent THF Student Survey has given us valuable insight into what our broader community is looking for and how The Hummingbird Field might evolve to better serve its needs.
Considering the changes in my personal life, combined with the general sentiment gathered from our survey, I’ve come to recognize that The Hummingbird Field would benefit from leadership that can wholeheartedly embrace and nurture the direction emerging from this feedback. After 19 years of contributing and caring for this community, I now know the time is right for me to step back from the role of Studio Director.
I’m happy and excited to announce that as of November 1, our Studio Manager Mike Halis will be taking over as Studio Director of The Hummingbird Field.
Having served alongside Mike in his role as a cleaning Energy Exchanger, then Energy Exchange Manager, then Assistant Manager, and currently Studio Manager, I have great confidence in his care and ability to guide the studio forward. So this feels like a natural transition, and I’m excited to see what Mike brings to the community in this new role. I hope you’ll join me in welcoming and supporting him as he takes the lead.
Please know that I’m not leaving The Hummingbird Field. I will remain the owner of the business, and available to support Mike and our teachers for the foreseeable future. Most importantly, I’ll continue teaching and sharing in the practice and community that have been such a deeply meaningful part of my life.
I have no way to put into words all that these 19 years have meant to me. What began as a humble yoga studio has become so much more: a place of connection, growth, friendship, challenge, and countless shared experiences. The people I’ve met, the teachers I’ve worked alongside, and the students I’ve had the privilege of serving have shaped my life in ways I will carry with me always.
Thank you for being part of this extraordinary journey. Your presence, trust, and participation have helped make The Hummingbird Field what it is today. While my role is changing, my love for this community and my gratitude for all we’ve shared remain.
With sincerely heartfelt gratitude,
Don
