welcome
We are a heart based, community driven gathering space offering mindful movement and meditation, infused with the vibrational frequency of joy, playfulness, freedom, and creativity.
We are pleased to have you join us. If this is your first time at our studio, please read the following to get a feel of who we are and what to expect…
Before coming in…
Make your first day at The Hummingbird Field easeful by registering before walking through our doors. We strongly recommend and ask all new students to register in advance (FYI drop-in spaces are available, though we cannot guarantee your spot).
Get started:
- Create an Account
- Browse Class Types
- Register for your first class which will prompt you to purchase a pass. Hot tip: the $80 Intro Month (which cost less than three drop-ins) is only available to new students on your first visit, though doesn’t activate until the date of your first class.Â
What do I need for my first class?
- All of our classes require a mat and a water bottle.
- We offer rentals if you want to try before investing in your own gear, or if you have forgotten a mat, practice towel, shower towel, or water bottle (scroll down for details).
- Hummingbird Hatha + Hummingbird Flow classes are heated at 37 degrees, though good to note that the weather can impact overall room temperature. Throughout this practice, you may start to notice drops of sweat on your mat. This will make it harder for you to grip and feel grounded, and depending on the temperature could be quite slippery. We recommend bringing in a mat towel to soak up sweat and help you grip/feel stable.
- Our warm classes (Yin, Stretch & Surrender, Mindful Pilates, and Vinyasa) classes are reduced heat at 27 degrees, a towel is optional but not necessary.
What should I expect when I arrive?
- Studio Dog: you may sometimes encounter Sonny, our very gentle and incredibly friendly Northern-Shepherd mix. If you are not interested in him, please ignore him and he will give you your space. If you want to sneak a peek, find us on instagram @thehummingbirdfield. Â
- Shoes: please always leave your shoes underneath the coat rack (do not wear them into the change-rooms).
- Front Desk: always check-in for your class at our reception upon arrival.
- Change-rooms:Â we have three change-rooms: Women (Trans Women/Non-Binary/Cis), Men (Trans Men; Non-Binary; Cis), and a private change room for those who need more privacy. Our main change rooms have showers if you need to refresh after class (please keep your shower time to a minimum).
- Zen Den: Before and after class please enjoy hot herbal tea, pick up a musical instrument, read a book, do some colouring, or just sit and be and relax or enjoy a chat with a fellow student.
What do I do when I enter the practice room?
- Help keep our studio noise free by leaving your phone/device in the change-room.
- All electronic devices must be turned off in off in the practice room (no exceptions).
- Please turn your smartwatch to do not disturb.
- Kindly avoid using perfume/cologne/fragrance.
- Reference the floor markers to indicate where to put your mat to ensure even space between fellow students.
Our Latecomers Policy…
We understand that things happen that we cannot control. If you find yourself running behind, please know that class starts and ends on time.
In order to create a peaceful sacred space, and to respect other students and the sanctity of the practice, we do not allow latecomers to take class (and it’s possible the front door will be locked).
Plan to arrive 15-30 minutes early to get oriented. We take pride in the connections students make before and after class so let yourself find peace and slowness in a world that seems to always be moving far too fast.
If you have any further questions, drop in for a cup of tea and chat, email us or call us 416-766-YOGA.Â

The Energy Exchange Program
Earn unlimited access to the studio by joining The Energy Exchange Program. This is an opportunity to deepen your practice by trading four hours a week serving the community via cleaning, working the front desk, or with a special skill (ie. graphic design, music, massage therapy, hair stylist, dental office, osteo, reiki, etc).
We hope you apply and join our community in this very special way alongside 50+ other EEers without whom the studio could not exist. Also worth noting, the vast majority of our teachers, managers, and even our studio director Don began their yoga journey this way…the experience has been life changing for many.
Energy Exchangers are an integral part of our studio family; their service, passion, and enthusiasm have a lot to do with why our space is so special, warm and welcoming.
In exchange for working one 4-hour shift per week (same day, same time each week) EEers receive unlimited practice, laundry service, complimentary rentals, staff deals on studio events and boutique items, maternity-leave, health holds, unlimited guest passes, and more.
If you to play a role in service to our community in exchange for unlimited practice, and have four hours a week to dedicate, our Energy Exchange program is for you.
The Hiring Process: we prefer to hire students who are familiar with our studio, have practiced here before and enjoyed unlimited access so that you inherently get the value of the exchange and will use your pass. Weâve had the most long term commitments from EEers who have joined the program after experiencing the introductory month and make that pass a pre-requisite to apply. Alternatively, if youâve Exchanged Energy before at another studio/have a regular practice, we can wave our pre-req. Here are your next steps:
- Purchase the $80 Intro Month to connect with us as a community
- Apply here at the same time to allow for time to complete the interview, orientation, and training so you donât have any gaps after your pass expires and your exchange begins.
Thank you for your interest and we look forward to reading your application and connecting with you soon.
Workplace Wellness Membership Program
As we become more and more aware of how our current public healthcare system is not designed to support life longevity and disease prevention, we come to realize that this responsibility is left in the hands of individual citizens. We know and appreciate that Torontoâs medical staff and hospitals are some of the very best in the world, yet they are part of a system of reactionary medicine that is not sustainable, as it is not addressing our root mental and physical health issues, particularly for our aging population.
We are increasingly hearing news stories of how medical and educational professionals are discovering the holistic health benefits that come with mindfulness, conscious movement, and meditation. This is where employers not only can play a powerful role in helping to improve the health and productivity of their employees, but contribute to the overall health of our immediate community, and our society at large.
With The Hummingbird Fieldâs Workplace Wellness Membership Plan, we can help to enhance not only the quality of life and health of your employees, but also help improve their job performance and create more appreciation for their employment in general.
Offering: various types of yoga, and Pilates, mindfulness, and meditation.
Some benefits of a regular mindfulness, movement, and meditation practice include. (but are not limited to…):
- reduced anxiety
- improved posture
- relief of chronic pain
- increased productivity
- increased energy detoxification of the skin
- improved immune system
- increased cardiovascular health
- strengthens and tones muscular system
- sense of community & belonging
Thank you for your interest and we look forward to supporting your team.
*Please note your team members must commit to a minimum of three months to qualify for this rate.Â

Frequently Asked Questions
What is The Hummingbird Field community all about?
Since 2007 itâs been a not-so-secret secret that the classes offered at THF are a type of bait intended to entice people into our space, simply to have them experience the blessed gift of community and friendship.
That friendship can range from a smiling receptionist greeting you as you enter, to the peace you may feel within as you lie on your mat at the end of your class. Our space is designed physically, socially, and energetically to encourage connection, both with self and others.
As for our classes, we strive to deliver a quality experience on the mat, including mindful movement and meditation, accessible to both the experienced and novice student.
What is Hummingbird Hatha/ Hummingbird Flow?
First off, any class with âHummingbirdâ in its title (aside from our Hummingbird Meditation) is a heated class, meaning our practice room temperature hovers around 37ÂșC, with approximately 40% humidity. External weather conditions and the number of students in the practice room can have varying effects on these conditions. If you have yet to practice hot yoga, your first class can feel overwhelming in moments. Refined mental and physical management of practicing in higher heat typically comes with a consistent practice. Students are encouraged move through each class at their own pace, taking rest and water when needed.
Is Hummingbird Hatha a cardio workout?
Very much so, and beginning with deep, conscious breathing. The poses in the Humminbird Hatha sequence are structured to build in intensity with the crescendo peaking at about the halfway mark. The gradual buildup, and the slow wind down, responsibly work with the cardiovascular system to generally challenge it in the safest way.
Do I need to be flexible to take classes?
Have no fear, accessibility is here. If you can get out of bed, consider yourself flexible enough. All our teachers are well-trained to offer instruction that is supportive of all bodies in the room, even in the most challenging of classes.
What should I wear?
Go for comfort. Consider clothing that allows for broad movement, yet itâs best to avoid baggy, heavy fabrics that can make your movement cumbersome.
What should I bring?
Bring your body, comfortable exercise clothing, and an open mind. If you forget to bring your own yoga mat, a shower towel and a water bottle, we rent all of the items to help lighten your load.
How long are classes?
While most classes are 60 minutes, a few are 75 minutes, and our Sunday morning 8am class is 90 minutes. Please check class durations carefully if youâre on a tight schedule.
I'm running late for class...
All of us are subject to the unexpected–those happenings that throw us off our schedule and put us behind on our travels. Despite this, we strictly honour our class start and stop times, which means we do not allow latecomers into the practice room once class has begun. Please consider using your devotion to your practice as a possible lifestyle change that brings you to our studio in a calm and timely manner.
Who is Sonny?
Sonny is our resident studio dog. Heâs possibly a husky/shepherd mix who fits beautifully into our community, with a very friendly and calm demeanor. Although Sonny is very affectionate, if he approaches you and youâre not interested in connecting with him, putting your hand up in a Stop Sign formation is a clear message for him to keep his distance from you.
