Krys Quintos (she/her)
Teacher
Krys (she/her) has been a student at MYBW since 2019. She originally discovered yoga from a used yoga DVD when she was eight years old. While fascinated by the impact of breathwork and stillness, at the time Krys did not understand yoga’s physiological and emotional effects. She used this tool to support her unsafe homelife in times of fear and stress. Stepping through the doors of MYBW, she felt a sense of safety with the staff and from the space, and slowly integrated herself into the community. She works full time as an early years teacher for a non-profit organization in Toronto, and is also MYBW’s Membership Manager, holding the desk duties down in the studio on weekends.
She recently completed her 200hr Modo Yoga Teacher Training in 2021 as a recipient of Modo’s Be Accessible BIPOC Scholarship. Inspired by her own journey with yoga, Krys experienced further inspiration from her graduating class, their curiosity, and their learning to work toward accessibility in the yoga industry. Krys hopes to bring her experience as a yoga teacher into marginalized communities. She is passionate about breaking down the barriers BIPOC folk can still experience—barriers she has faced in order to access this healing and supportive practice. Krys is committed to lifelong learning about accessibility and inclusion and unlearning systems of oppression. Now a retired marathon runner, Krys is on a journey of repairing the effects of diet culture in the movement and wellness industry. This experience inspired her own commitment as a Yoga Teacher to creating safer spaces for others who are repairing their relationship with their bodies. Krys is currently doing lots of learning to honour the traditional roots of yoga by completing her Nidra Certification and Sound Healing training. Krys is also doing learning and workshops in creating safer spaces for *2SLGTBQIA+ in practice and the community.
